Ready for Fall

Hi readers!  It seems as though I have fallen off the face of the blog.  Well I have been super busy playing with my cute baby this summer and haven't had much time for house projects and blogging.  But I did find some time during naptime to decorate the house for fall.  :)  Time to break out the velvet pumpkins!! :)

In the living room I added my dark purple velvet pillows (from World Market) with my brown floral ones.  A plaid throw on the back adds to the cozy factor.  I took down my spring bird wreath in favor of the pinecone wreath (from Target).

I arranged a couple of little pumpkin piles on the console and TV cabinet.

My velvet pumpkins are displayed on a leaf tray.  These are mostly from Joann's last year.  And the top one is a real Hot Skwash

On the dining table I set up a burlap runner with touches of gold and silver.  All the mercury glass came to play with a couple of new white velvet pumpkins (also from Joann) and brown leaf chargers.

I used my rose china with ivory napkins and crystal glasses.

I think these white pumpkins might be my new favorite thing!

And in the kitchen I added my little pumpkin votive holders on the shelf.

I'm all ready for fall.  Where are you fall?  Please come soon!

Thanks for stopping by!  I'll be back soon with an adorable baby update.  Stay tuned!

Happy 7th Blogiversary!

Hello and Happy Independence Day!  Hope everyone had a fun and safe celebration last night. Though we didn't get to go to our usual fireworks show this year, we did see a few fireworks in the neighborhood from our deck last night.  :)  And of course we were more than entertained by this little firecracker...

I couldn't let the day pass by without acknowledging my 7th year of blogging!  Granted, I haven't been the best blogger, lately, but surely things will settle down around here soon and I'll get back to some more fun house projects.  Right now most of my projects involve rearranging the nursery furniture and accessories while little one sleeps. :)

In the past seven years I have written 339 posts about the house, the garden, and our life here at the Horvath house.  Thanks for coming along on the journey with me! Come back soon for more updates about our little Georgia and hopefully an update on my weed-filled (and veggie-filled) garden.

Summer in the Garden

Well, summer is officially here!  I haven't noticed much, since I've been a little distracted by this new arrival to the Horvath House. :)  But I did find a few minutes to walk around the yard and take some pictures of the floral bounty that is blooming this month!

The hydrangeas are blooming this year after a three year hiatus.  They were worth the wait!  I love the kaleidoscope of color... I've got one of each it seems! :)  My impatiens are doing well, too, since we've had a lot of rain.

The flower baskets on the fence are putting on a show, too.  The rain has been good for them, too.  These are filled with my traditional combination of pink new guinea impatiens, coleus, and sweet potato vine.  Love it!

Before Georgia arrived, we planted a little garden, just some tomatoes, peppers, beans, pumpkins, and a zucchini.  The rest of the space I planted with zinnias, marigolds and sunflowers.  Since then, I've been too busy to notice, and the weeds (remnants from the buckwheat cover crop mostly) have taken over.  But the veggies are still in there... somewhere!  Don't worry, my mother has this project on her radar, since clearly I am not going to get to it! haha!

Around the garden in the flower borders everything is blooming away.  The bee balm has grown so much this year it's really filling in nicely!

The butterfly weed we planted last year is finally blooming!

And the butterfly bushes are putting on a show.

Among the weeds on the creek bank, we have cleome and lilies blooming! :)

And my wildflower border is coming along nicely.  Most of the flowers came back to bloom again this year, even some of the sunflowers I planted! :)  Every week there is something new blooming!  This week it's all yellow!

The irises in the flower bed have given way to knockout roses, speedwell, bee balm, phlox and lilies.  It's so beautiful down here!

Summer is a bountiful blooming flower border! :)

Hope you're having a great summer so far.  July is almost here!

Welcome Baby Horvath!

We are happy and proud to announce the arrival of our daughter, Georgia Mae Horvath.  Our little angel arrived two weeks and two days early on June 7, 2016 at 6:33 am.  She weighed 7 pounds 4 ounces and measured 20 1/2 inches long.  She has long limbs, long fingers and toes and a head of dark hair!

We are adjusting to our new role as parents which means lots of cuddling and snuggling with our little bundle of joy.  I was able to sneak away for a few minutes to share some baby updates with all of you.  Here's a look at her first three weeks:

As you can see she has us wrapped around her little finger.  :)

So until next time, you know where I'll be. :)

Love from the three of us,

Baby Girl Nursery Reveal!

Hooray!  It's nursery reveal day!  I showed you the nursery plan way back in February.  Since then, I've been hard at work creating a pink, aqua and yellow themed nursery with flowers, butterflies and hot air balloons!  And it's finally finished so I can share it with you... come along for the tour.

First things first, I cleared the room of all the guest room furniture except the cherry shelf and dresser.  Then I painted the walls a pale peachy pink called "Baby Blush" by Valspar.

I left the white floral tie-back curtains that we had in here, but behind those I added blackout thermal shades from Bed, Bath and Beyond.  So if baby girl is sleeping, we can pull the shades and have near total darkness.

My mom bought us the white Jenny Lind crib.  I love it!

The wooden rocking horse was Michael's when he was a boy.  His father built it for him and we are so happy to have it in our home for our children!  Isn't it precious?!

I made three different crib sheets and a pink floral crib skirt for the bedding.  The quilt over the side of the crib was handmade by my grandmother when I was a baby.  It has animals cross-stitched on each square.  :)  I'm so excited to display it in my daughter's nursery.  The stuffed elephant is Michael's from when he was a baby and the little lamb is mine. :)

Over the crib I designed a gallery wall of embroidery hoop art and some prints.  The garland and hot air balloons are from my baby shower decorations.  I decided not to make the felt hot air balloon mobile since we already had these paper hot air balloons and clouds.

I did the two embroidery hoops with a hot air balloon and our baby girl's name.  The 'little one' print is from Katie Daisy.  The G artwork is made with pink buttons that I just glued on some fabric and framed.

In the opposite corner I have my glider chair that we bought from Walmart.com.  It's quite comfy and I sit in here in the evenings and read.  The quilt on the back is from my friend, Andi.  And the pillow is from HomeGoods.  The blue knitted pouf ottoman is from Land of Nod.  It's very lightweight so when Georgia gets bigger she can move it around and play on it.  My nephews have already tried it out. :)

I added a couple of side tables to fill in the space.  This round one with a pink tablecloth will give me somewhere to put my drink and kindle or whatever when I'm nursing.  The lamp is the same one from the guest room, I just painted it aqua.  The mirror is from our bedroom, and I repainted it white. :)  It's adorable in here!

The white side table is from Wayfair. I love how the spindle legs mirror the crib design.  On top of the table is a basket filled with burp cloths and a white noise machine.  The round boxes underneath have some toys and things in them.  But I'm thinking eventually I'll put a basket with books on that shelf.

Papa built the cloud shelf for me.  It turned out quite cute! :)  It's styled to hold a stack of books.  And of course to tie in with the shelf, I hung some more hot air balloons and a paper cloud.

On the wall next door are a couple of prints I found on Etsy.

The last wall has the changing table/dresser on it.  The cherry dresser and shelf we already had, and while I'd love for them to be white, I just couldn't bring myself to paint them.  Next to the dresser is a blue floral bin that I'm using as a laundry hamper.  I decided not to make the hanging laundry bag when I found this fabric bin.

We have our changing station all set up on top.  The changing pad cover that I made has little hearts and ladybugs on it.  So cute!

We have lots of cute clothes tucked away in the drawers.

The shelf above was built by my brother over 10 years ago.  Right now it's just displaying photos and collectibles, but down the road I can see it full of books!

The porcelain ballerina is mine from my childhood.  I paired it with a pair of tiny pink satin slippers.  Aren't they precious?

And last but not least, the closet is fully organized with shelving inside and a container system on the back of the door.  The container system is by Elfa from the Container Store.  I love it for storing all those little odds and ends that you need quick access to.  And someday when it's outlived its usefulness for baby, we can move it to the back of the pantry door.  :)

I added some shelving on the bottom of the closet and some storage bins.  The bottom row of bins are from Michael's and they have toys and books inside.  The middle row is from Target's new Pillowfort line.  I love these!  They have toys and bottles and extra diapers.  And the top row has a ballerina trunk which will one day be filled with dress up clothes, and a pink basket full of blankets.  Her clothes are organized by size with dividers that I bought on Etsy.  She has plenty of cute outfits!! :)

I am so excited to share our nursery with you.  And even more excited to welcome our baby girl home to her pink room in 6 short weeks!  We wouldn't be quite so well-supplied without the generosity of our friends and family.  Thanks to everyone for their love and support.  We can't wait to share our journey with all of you!
